You didn’t even have to wait a week for the new show! This time around, we’re making sense of some ongoing stuff: the ever-increasing flow of oil into the Gulf, and the ever-decreasing flow of aid to Gaza. We’re also taking a sensible look at immigration, and casting our completely clean and sober eye on the decriminalization of marijuana. As always, we wrap up with the Lunatic Fringe, and this time, we answer the question “Who Would Jesus Fire?” and discuss the increasing Tea Party backlash. Oh, and did you know which famous head of state was born in a bathroom? It’s all here, and most of it makes sense by the time we’re finished.

Dear Don L,
I enjoy listening to your show. You and Laurie put an interesting spin on current news. I recently listened to a podcast where you described the Amish as “peaceful people”. If you have ever seen them drive a buggy horse to almost dropping dead in the heat of summer, or turn a blind eye to the horrific conditions of the animals they breed in puppy mill situations I think that term would not apply.
While they have the lovely “touristy” term of “peaceful people”, some Amish are money driven at the expense of defenseless animals and children who suffer farm accidents.
I am not putting all Amish in this category, but “peaceful people” is a misnomer in these cases. They are capitalist and recognize the value of money. I have no issue with that, but instead of exploiting defenseless animals, pouring waste into our streams via farm run off with little or no accountability for the end destruction of water ways and using children for farming that may put them in harms way I would hope they would create avenues of revenue that are more “peaceful”.
Thanks for listening and your comment. I apologize for not responding sooner, it’s part of the website learning curve. Check out the upcoming 8/8/10 podcast for our perspective.
